Short answer: Load center is the horizontal distance from the face of the forks (or lifting point) to the center of gravity of the load. For a uniform load, it's half the load's length in the direction of travel. Equipment capacity is rated at a standard load center, and capacity drops as the load center increases.
For a uniform load, the center is at its midpoint. Irregular loads shift the center, account for the heavier end.
Forklifts and cranes are rated at a standard load center (often 24"). A load extended farther forward reduces safe capacity.
