Fall Protection Accessories

Fall protection accessories are the smaller rated parts and soft goods that finish an arrest system: the carabiner that closes a connection, the snap hook on a lanyard leg, the D-ring extender that brings the dorsal ring within reach, and the belts, bags, and pads a crew wears and hauls around all of it. This collection pulls together the KStrong hardware that lives between the three big pieces, ANSI-rated steel and aluminum carabiners, stamped alloy snap hooks, wide-gate rebar hooks, a tie-back hook with a 5,000 lb rated gate, SRL connectors, and D-ring extenders, alongside work positioning and tool belts, bosun chairs for suspended work, equipment bags, a trauma relief pack, replacement keepers, and harness comfort pads. Prices run from a $4.30 lanyard keeper up past a $345 padded bosun chair. Every connector here carries a load number you can read straight off the marking, and the sections below sort the accessories by the job each one actually does.

Connectors & Accessories Buying Guide

What this collection covers. This is the accessories drawer of the KStrong fall protection line: the parts that attach to, wear with, or carry a harness, lanyard, and anchor rather than being one of those three themselves. Some of it is load-rated hardware that carries arrest forces, the carabiners, snap hooks, rebar hooks, and D-ring extenders that sit in the load path. The rest is the gear that makes a full shift at height workable, positioning and tool belts, bosun chairs, equipment bags, padding, and a trauma relief pack. Read the two groups differently. Rated connectors have to match the components they join and carry a legible marking before anyone clips in. Comfort and carry gear is a productivity choice, but a couple of items on the soft side, the trauma relief pack and the bosun chairs, are safety hardware in their own right. The sections below take the connectors first, because those are the parts a mistake actually shows up in.

Connectors are rated components, not clips. The carabiner or snap hook that closes any connection is held to ANSI Z359.12, which requires the gate to hold 3,600 lbf on the face and in every direction and to be self-closing and self-locking so it cannot open under load. The Fall Protection Carabiners collection runs that range and it also lives inside this hub: an aluminum bulb-type carabiner around $22.52 that a gloved hand can work, a small aluminum quarter-turn locking carabiner with a swivel load indicator near $34.42, small steel carabiners with 0.84 inch and 1 inch gate openings from about $25.80, and a wider 2 inch gate steel carabiner around $59.22. Snap hooks cover the same job on a fixed leg, from a $13.93 stamped alloy hook to a $19.72 steel swivel snap hook with a load indicator that tells you at a glance whether the connector has already taken a fall. The one failure to design out is rollout, where a hook works loose against a shape it was never meant to clip, so keep every connector matched to what it closes on and hold to one connector per D-ring.

Wide-gate hooks and the tie-back. Some structure is too fat for a standard carabiner, and that is what the rebar hooks are for. The large stamped alloy rebar hook opens to a 2.63 inch gate around $24.77 and the large aluminum rebar hook carabiner runs near $45.15, both auto-closing and auto-locking, and both wrap a beam, column, or bundle of bar that a small gate cannot reach around. When the lanyard has to wrap back on itself instead of reaching an anchor, the tie-back hook with a 5,000 lb rated gate around $16.23 is the right part, because a standard snap hook gate is not built to be loaded against a wrapped connection. For self-retracting setups, the connector for single and dual SRLs near $37.90 keeps the lines from crossing where they leave the dorsal ring. Match the hook to the member it closes on, not the other way around.

D-ring extenders and the small hardware. A dorsal D-ring sits between the shoulder blades where a worker cannot see it, and reaching over the shoulder to clip an SRL or a heavy lanyard is awkward at best. The 18 inch D-ring extender with snap hook and O-ring around $17.38 solves that by adding length off the back ring for easier over-the-shoulder connection. The rest of the small hardware is the parts that keep a system whole: a standalone shock absorber pack with D-ring and snap hook, built for a 6 ft maximum freefall, around $31.76 for retrofitting arrest to a plain lanyard, and a replacement lanyard keeper with a large ring near $4.30 for the keeper that always seems to go missing first. These are low-cost parts, but each one sits in or on the load path, so the same rule holds: buy the rated replacement, not the closest thing in the toolbox.

Positioning belts, tool belts, and bosun chairs. Work positioning holds a worker against the structure with both hands free, and it is a separate job from arrest. The padded waist with a removable tool belt around $43.64, the standalone removable tool belt from about $22.48, and the oil and gas derrick belly belt near $172.02 all serve that leaning, hands-free posture and carry the tools the work needs. For long suspended jobs, a bosun chair takes the load off the harness during the hang: the version with a rigid board runs around $146.18 and the padded-board model near $345.40 for crews who spend hours on the line. Keep the two systems straight. A positioning belt or a bosun chair supports the worker in normal use, while the arrest system, anchored to the dorsal ring through a lanyard or SRL, rides along as the independent backup that catches an actual fall.

Bags, pads, and rescue readiness. The carry and comfort gear is the quiet half of this collection. An all-purpose durable equipment bag around $67.57 and a dry backpack with a webbing side and rope pocket near $61.52 keep a kit organized and off the ground, and a small kit bag from about $4.60 holds the loose connectors. A removable shoulder and back X pad near $37.48 softens the straps on a harness that gets worn all day, and comfort here doubles as safety, because a harness that digs in gets loosened and slack turns arrest forces into injury. The trauma relief pack around $16.50 is the item to not skip: OSHA 1926.502(d)(20) requires prompt rescue after a fall, and a worker left hanging in a harness faces suspension trauma within minutes, so the relief straps give a suspended worker loops to stand in and keep blood moving while rescue arrives.

Anchors and slings live next door. A handful of anchors roll up into this hub, the 5K drop-thru anchor with swivel D-ring around $78.72, the 3/4 inch removable bolt anchor for concrete near $79.99, the aluminum sliding beam anchor around $207.85, and the rolling beam anchor near $399, but they are the overlap, not the full set. The complete anchorage range, beam clamps, roof anchors, column and parapet mounts, and the rest, sits in Fall Protection Anchors, so start there when the decision is what to tie off to. And when the hardware cannot clamp the structure directly, a beam, an embed, or a poured slab, the Anchor Straps collection carries the webbing and coated-wire slings that reach it. Pick the anchor and the reach first, then come back here for the connector that closes the link.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a fall protection accessory?

Anything that attaches to, wears with, or carries a fall arrest system rather than being the harness, the lanyard or lifeline, or the anchor itself. In this collection that means rated connectors like carabiners, snap hooks, rebar hooks, tie-back hooks, SRL connectors, and D-ring extenders, plus work positioning and tool belts, bosun chairs, equipment bags, harness comfort pads, a trauma relief pack, and replacement keepers. The rated hardware carries arrest loads and has to be matched and marked; the belts, bags, and pads support the worker and the kit.

Do the carabiners and hooks here meet ANSI?

Yes. The connectors are built to ANSI Z359.12, which requires every gate to hold 3,600 lbf on the face and in all directions and to be self-closing and self-locking so it cannot open under load. That marking is what lets a small carabiner or snap hook sit in the same load path as the harness and anchor. Confirm the marking is legible before you clip in, and keep the connector matched to what it closes on to avoid rollout.

What is a D-ring extender for?

The dorsal D-ring sits high on the back between the shoulder blades, where reaching over the shoulder to clip a self-retracting lifeline or a heavy lanyard is difficult. The 18 inch D-ring extender adds length off that ring so the connection is easier to make and inspect. It stays in the load path, so it carries the same rating as the connection it extends and gets inspected with the rest of the gear.

How is a tie-back hook different from a regular snap hook?

A tie-back hook has a gate rated to be loaded against a wrapped connection, so the lanyard can pass around a beam or column and clip back onto itself. The one here carries a 5,000 lb rated gate. A standard snap hook gate is not built for that load direction, which is why wrapping a plain snap hook back on itself is a known way to fail a connection. Use the tie-back hook whenever the lanyard has to wrap the structure instead of reaching a separate anchor.

Do I actually need a trauma relief pack?

If a worker can be left suspended after a fall, yes. OSHA 1926.502(d)(20) requires the employer to provide for prompt rescue, and a worker hanging in a harness can develop suspension trauma, also called orthostatic intolerance, within minutes as blood pools in the legs. The trauma relief pack gives the suspended worker deployable loops to stand in, which keeps blood moving and buys time until the rescue plan brings them down.
