E-Track Systems

E-track is the anchor system you build into a wall or floor when an enclosed trailer gives you nothing to hook onto. This collection carries Kinedyne's full run of logistic track: Series E in horizontal and vertical slot patterns, Series A, flush-mount Series F with round holes, and the lighter Series L aluminum track for recreational trailers, across powder-coated, galvanized, and aluminum finishes. A 5 ft powder-coated Series E rail starts under $30, a 10 ft galvanized run sits around $44, and heavier aluminum sections climb past $160, with end caps sold singly or in four-packs to close off cut ends. The track is half a system on its own, because it does nothing until a fitting clicks into it, so most buyers pair rail with the straps and beams that lock into the same slots. Match series to series before you order, because the profiles look alike and do not interchange, then pick the finish for the environment the trailer works in.

Logistic Tracks Buying Guide

The rail is the backbone, the fitting does the work. E-track is high-strength 12-gauge steel rail with slots spaced 2 inches apart down its length, and every slot is an anchor point. A fitting, a spring-loaded end, a ring, a hook, or a beam socket, presses into a slot and locks, then pops back out when you release it. That is the whole idea behind the system: one mounted rail accepts ratchet straps, cam buckles, tie-off rings, and shoring beam ends without drilling a new hole for each accessory. Bolt the track to the wall or the floor once and the tie-down points are wherever you need them along the run. Because the slot pattern is standardized within a series, the hardware is interchangeable, so you buy rail once and add only the fittings a given load calls for.

Horizontal or vertical, and where it mounts. Horizontal E-track has slots that run perpendicular to the rail and is the more common choice, run in long lines along the walls or the floor of a van or box truck to give a continuous row of anchor points. Vertical E-track has slots that run parallel to the rail and mounts in short uprights, which earns its place in corners and tight bays where a full horizontal run will not fit. Both bolt to walls or floor, and Kinedyne stocks each orientation in Series E and Series A, in both the galvanized and the powder-coated finish. A typical build runs horizontal rows at two heights for strap work, then adds vertical sections wherever the interior geometry is awkward.

Series E, A, F, and L are not the same slot. This is where ordering goes wrong. Series E is the industry standard, rectangular slots stamped into 12-gauge steel. Series A uses the same steel but a different slot design found on some newer trailers, and A-series fittings do not drop into E-series track. Series F trades slots for round holes, either 3/4 inch or 1 inch, in aluminum or steel, and flush-mounts into the floor so nothing stands above the deck, which makes it the pick for cargo vans and reefers that ship without built-in lashing points. Series L is narrower aluminum track with elongated slots, rated medium duty and sized for utility and recreational trailers hauling ATVs, motorcycles, and powersports, and it takes single-stud L fittings rather than E hardware. The rule across all four is simple: match series to series. A fitting bought for the wrong profile will not lock, so confirm what your track already is before you add to it.

Galvanized, powder-coated, or aluminum. Both Series E and Series A come in a galvanized and a painted finish. Galvanized is the buy for any trailer that sees weather, road salt, or regular wash-downs, because the zinc coating fights the rust that eventually seizes a fitting in its slot. Powder-coated track suits dry indoor service and a finished interior. The aluminum Series A rail and the Series F and L lines cut weight, which matters on a trailer already close to its axle rating, and they shrug off corrosion, at a higher price: a 10 ft aluminum Series A rail runs past $160 against roughly $44 for a galvanized steel Series E rail of the same length. There is also a lighter recreational-grade Series E for loads where a full freight-weight rail is more than the job needs.

What clicks into the track. A rail is inventory until you add the hardware that locks into it. The logistics straps here cover the spring-loaded, butterfly, and cam fittings that click into the run and tension across a load, and the spring-loaded logistic ratchet straps in ratchet straps do the same job with a ratchet's mechanical advantage for heavier freight. Set across opposing rows of track, decking and shoring beams drop into the slots to build a second freight level or a bulkhead that stops a load from shifting rearward. The rest of the securement system, transport chain, binders, corner protection, and tarp hardware, lives in the cargo control hub, so the track collection stays focused on the rail and the pieces that mount it.

Rate the fittings, then cap the ends. The rail is not the rated part of the system, the fitting is. A common single-stud E-track fitting carries a working load limit around 1,000 to 1,333 lb on 3,000 to 4,000 lb break strength, and heavier O-ring fittings reach 2,000 lb. Stack enough anchor points to meet the FMCSA half-weight math the way you would on a flatbed, counting working load limits rather than slot count, because the number of slots on the wall tells you nothing about capacity. Finish a cut rail with end caps, sold singly for about $1.69 or in four-packs, which close the raw end so a fitting cannot slide out and a hand cannot catch the sheared edge. Match the cap to the series, E or A caps for slotted track and flanged L caps for L track.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between E-track and A-track?

Both are 12-gauge steel logistic rail, but the slot pattern differs. Series E uses the long-standing rectangular slot that most trailers and most fittings are built around, while Series A uses a different slot design found on some newer trailers. The two are not fully cross-compatible: an A-series fitting will not reliably lock into E-series track. Decide which system your trailer already runs, then buy track and fittings to match it rather than mixing the two.

Do I need horizontal or vertical E-track?

Horizontal track, with slots running perpendicular to the rail, is the usual choice and mounts in long rows along a wall or floor for a continuous line of anchor points. Vertical track, with slots parallel to the rail, mounts in short uprights and is useful in corners and narrow bays where a horizontal run will not fit. Many trailers use both, horizontal rows for everyday strap work and vertical sections where the space is tight.

Is E-track strong enough to secure a vehicle or heavy equipment?

Capacity comes from the fittings and the count, not the rail. A single-stud E-track fitting typically carries a 1,000 to 1,333 lb working load limit, and heavier ring fittings reach 2,000 lb, so you build to a load by adding enough anchor points to meet the FMCSA requirement that the aggregate working load limit reach at least half the cargo weight. For a heavy vehicle that means several rated fittings and straps, sized by the math, not by how many slots the wall happens to have.

Which track should I use on an enclosed cargo van floor?

Series F flush-mount track is the common answer for a van or reefer floor, because its round-hole profile sits flush with the deck so nothing stands up to trip over or catch a pallet. It comes in aluminum or steel with 3/4 inch or 1 inch holes. If you are anchoring lighter recreational loads in a utility trailer, the aluminum Series L track is the lighter-duty alternative that takes single-stud L fittings.

Can I mix fittings and straps between the different series?

No. Series E, A, F, and L each use a different slot or hole profile, and hardware built for one will not lock into another. A fitting sized for E-track will not seat in Series A slots or Series F round holes, and L-track uses its own single-stud fittings. Before you order straps, rings, or beams, confirm the exact series printed on your existing track or hardware and match it.
