Flatbed Straps

Flatbed straps are the hooked tie-downs a flatbed trailer runs by the dozen: a length of polyester webbing with a steel hook on one end that grabs the trailer, tensioned either by a ratchet built into the strap or by a winch mounted on the rail. This collection is Kinedyne end to end, the brand flatbed fleets already trust, and it splits two ways. Winch straps carry a flat hook, wire hook, chain anchor, or delta ring on one end and a clean sealed tail on the other that winds onto a trailer winch. Ratchet straps carry the same hook patterns with a heat-treated ratchet in the run. Widths cover 2, 3, and 4 inch, with ratings from a 2 inch flat hook at 3,335 lb up through 4 inch K-FORCE builds at 6,670 lb, and the winches, protective sleeves, and reflective hardware that complete the system sit alongside them. The guide below sorts the strap by how it tensions, then by hook, width, and rating.

Endless Ratchet Straps Buying Guide

Winch strap or ratchet strap, and why flatbeds run both. The two families here tension the same webbing in different ways. A winch strap has a hook on one end and a clean sealed tail on the other; the tail feeds through a winch bolted or welded to the trailer, and you crank the mandrel with a winch bar to pull the load down. A ratchet strap has a ratchet buckle in the run that you pump by hand, and a hook on each end. Flatbeds favor winch straps for long hauls of steel, pipe, and lumber because the winch stays mounted on the rail and the strap stores wound on the mandrel, ready to throw. Ratchet straps go where there is no winch, anchoring over D-rings and rub rails. Kinedyne's 2 inch flat hook winch strap runs about $16, and the 2 inch wire hook ratchet strap with a StrapPak sleeve to stow the loose tail is near $50. Both styles are hooked securement, which is what separates this collection from loop-style tie-downs that have no fitting at all.

Match the hook to the trailer, not the load. The webbing is the same polyester across the line; the end fitting decides whether the strap works on your equipment. Flat hooks are genuinely flat and grab a flatbed rub rail or drop into a stake pocket, which makes them the freight default in 2, 3, and 4 inch. Wire hooks are slimmer, sized for stake pockets and rails that flat hooks have worn loose, with the 2 inch narrow wire hook winch strap around $18. Chain anchors end in a short length of chain for machinery tie-downs and anchor points webbing cannot reach, near $28.69 in 2 inch and about $32 in 3 inch. Delta rings finish drop-deck and winch systems and appear on the 3 and 4 inch builds. Pick the fitting for the rail, pocket, or anchor you actually have on the trailer, then choose the width and rating separately, because the hook does not change the strength.

Width and webbing set the rating. Rating climbs with width and webbing line. Two inch is general freight at 3,335 lb standard, around $16 for the flat hook winch strap. Above it the abrasion-resistant lines carry more and shrug off the friction that retires most straps early: K-FORCE and Rhino MAX both push 2 inch to 4,000 lb, with the K-FORCE flat hook ratchet strap near $32 and the Rhino MAX flat hook around $39. Three inch steps up to 5,400 lb for heavier machinery and coil, the flat hook winch strap about $22. Four inch is steel and equipment territory: the standard flat hook winch strap holds 5,400 lb, while the 4 inch K-FORCE flat hook reaches 6,670 lb near $23 and the 4 inch wire hook ratchet strap carries the same 6,670 lb around $92. Every rating is assigned under the WSTDA standard, which caps the working load limit at no more than one third of the assembly break strength, so a 3,335 lb tag sits on 10,000 lb webbing. That reserve absorbs shock and wear and is not capacity to spend.

The winch is half the system. On a winch-strap trailer the strap is only as strong as the winch it winds onto, so the winches live here too. Weld-on winches fix permanently to the frame and rate up to 6,670 lb, around $31, the right pick where strap positions never change. Portable winches clamp to the rail with two set screws and move anywhere along it, near $29.59 at 5,500 lb, good for occasional use and mixed loads. Sliding winches ride a C-channel or double-L track so you slide the anchor to wherever the load sits, with the standard sliding C-channel winch about $66 at 5,500 lb. Kinedyne also builds low-profile, undermount, bolt-on, and cable versions of each for tighter clearances and specific frames. Match the winch working load limit to the strap it tensions, and pick the mounting style by how your frame is set up: fixed positions weld on, variable loads slide, light or shared duty goes portable.

Protect the webbing and keep the tag readable. Two things end a flatbed strap early, and the accessories here answer both. Abrasion is the first: a nylon protective sleeve slides over the webbing where it crosses a sharp steel edge or a coil, from about $5.63 in 2 inch up through the 3 and 4 inch sizes, and a few dollars of sleeve saves a strap that costs many times more to replace. A missing rating is the second: FMCSA rates an unmarked tiedown down to a federal default value well below what a marked strap actually carries, so keep the stenciled working load limit legible and retire any strap you cannot read. The reflective VeeBoard near $12.75 improves visibility on wide and projecting loads, and a 1 inch cam-buckle boat safety strap rounds out the light-duty end. The half-weight math and minimum tie-down count that decide how many straps a load needs live on the parent ratchet straps page; this collection is about picking the right hooked strap and the winch that pulls it tight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a winch strap and a ratchet strap?

A winch strap has a hook on one end and a plain sealed tail on the other that winds onto a winch mounted on the trailer; you tension it by cranking the winch with a bar. A ratchet strap has a hook on each end and a ratchet buckle in the run that you pump by hand. Both are hooked flatbed securement, and both are stocked here. Flatbeds run winch straps for repeat long hauls because the winch stays mounted, and reach for ratchet straps where there is no winch to wind onto.

Are these endless or loop straps?

No. Despite the collection URL, every strap here carries a hook, a flat hook, wire hook, chain anchor, or delta ring, so it grabs a rub rail, stake pocket, or anchor point. Endless straps are a continuous loop of webbing with no fitting on either end and rig by wrapping the load itself. If you need the loop style for bundling pipe or boxes, that is a separate collection; everything on this page is hooked securement.

Which hook should I choose?

Match the hook to the trailer, not the cargo. Flat hooks are the default and grab a flatbed rub rail or stake pocket. Wire hooks are slimmer for stake pockets and rails that flat hooks have worn loose. Chain anchors end in a short chain for machinery and anchor points webbing cannot reach. Delta rings finish drop-deck and winch systems. The webbing and rating are the same across fittings, so the hook is purely about what your trailer gives you to attach to.

What working load limit do the 2, 3, and 4 inch straps carry?

Two inch straps rate 3,335 lb standard, or 4,000 lb on the K-FORCE and Rhino MAX abrasion lines. Three inch straps step up to 5,400 lb. Four inch straps carry 5,400 lb standard and reach 6,670 lb on the K-FORCE builds. Each number is set under the WSTDA standard at one third of the webbing break strength, so a 3,335 lb tag sits on 10,000 lb webbing and the reserve is not capacity you rig to.

Do I need a trailer winch to use a winch strap?

Yes. A winch strap has no ratchet and no hook on the tail end; it tensions only by winding onto a winch fixed to the trailer rail. This collection stocks the winches to match, in weld-on, portable set-screw, and sliding track styles, rated 5,500 to 6,670 lb. If your trailer has no winch, use a ratchet strap instead, which carries its own tensioning buckle and needs only an anchor point on each end.
